Scott Pruett: “This is an incredibly exciting thing for road racing. Getting together was the right thing to do, and it’s very exciting to see it all come together the way it did, seeing all the pieces coming together. It’s exciting for 2013, and a lot of anticipation for 2014. I’m happy to hear a lot of buzz – not only from the competitors, but from the manufacturers. I hope and think the buzz will flood into the sponsorship level as well.”
Jordan Taylor: “There was a lot of anticipation for this announcement. I know a lot of thought, data and research went into it. I’m sure it will create some great racing.”
Alex Popow: “This is what we wanted, and what we expected would happen. Now we’ll see the leveling process to see how the balance works between the different cars.”
Joe Foster: “I think consistency with our present classes in the unification is a good thing. Now it’s up to the teams to adapt our business to the new structure. It should be good in 2014. I’m excited and ready to get going. Now we’ve got to get through 2013 and get ready for next year.”
Bob Stallings: “This is terrific. I told Scott Atherton that I’ve been involved in a lot of mergers and acquisitions through my life, and I’m amazed that there is not the usual group of people who are unhappy or apprehensive. I haven’t heard any naysayers or pessimists. Everyone has been optimistic, and all of them are very positive and encouraged – very energized. That makes me feel very good.”
Peter Baron: “This is a good way to integrate the cars. I’m anxious to see how they come up with the amateur classes with the different levels of drivers. I’m happy with the two prototype class concept. It gives a stepping stone for a bunch of people who are not quite ready to do the top level.”
Bobby Rahal: “I’m glad to see one series. That will make sports car racing that much stronger, and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
Will Nonnamaker: “There was a lot of work that went into this decision and I think they nailed it. We were quietly hoping Team Sahlen would be in the premier prototype class, so we’re excited to be in a Daytona Prototype and representing Sahlen’s.”
Wayne Taylor: “Today’s announcement was exactly what I was hoping would happen. I am very happy they took the time to recognize the investments that the teams have made. This is a resounding message that demonstrates the partnership between the series and the teams. Everyone I’ve talked too – including our drivers and sponsors – are all happy. Every change I’ve seen so far across the board has been positive.”
