Chicago Fan Wins Seventh Round of "Watch And Win" Sweepstakes
July 22, 2010
J.J. O'Malley, GRAND-AMDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Steve Jenear was a little upset because work obligations kept him from watching several GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series races on SPEED this season - preventing him from entering the "Watch and Win" Sweepstakes.
He did watch the EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in June, and the 47-year-old resident of Chicago was thrilled when he found out several weeks later that he was selected as the winner.
Now, the building services supervisor will be attending the 2010 season-ending race at Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City, Utah, where he will have a 1-in-11 opportunity to win a Chip Foose-designed Mazda RX-8 R3, thanks to the sweepstakes - a joint effort between Pirelli Tire, Mazda and GRAND-AM.
"This is the biggest contest I've ever won, and I feel great about it," Jenear said. "I've been a road racing fan from an early age, when I attended all the big races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. It's going to be awesome going to Salt Lake City. I've never been to Utah before."
Jenear has a definite rooting interest, and will be pulling for the current Daytona Prototype points leader to capture his third championship.
"I'm a big Scott Pruett fan," Jenear said. "I met him years ago at Road America, and I was impressed with his attitude. I've been following him racing Indy cars and sports cars. He's a real nice guy, and I've been pulling for Scott and Memo Rojas to win the championship."
One entrant selected from the entries for each race wins a trip to the finale. Anthony Carbone of New York City was the Rolex 24 winner; Courtenay Smith of Friendsville, Tenn., was the Homestead-Miami Speedway winner; U.S. Army serviceman Chris Gilbert of Fayetteville, N.C., won at Barber Motorsports Park; Pennsylvanian Derek Hauck was an on-site winner at Virginia International Raceway; Omaha, Neb., fan Michael Grimm won at Lime Rock Park; and Sharpsburg, Ga.'s Brian Bingham won at Watkins Glen.
Sweepstakes Details
Continuing with SPEED's live coverage of the Aug. 7 Crown Royal 200 at The Glen (5 p.m. ET), viewers will be shown a "Watch and Win" code word several times throughout the broadcast. Once fans see the code word, they simply need to log on to GRAND-AM.com/foose to enter the sweepstakes. One winner will be chosen following each of the first 11 races to receive a trip to the 2010 Rolex Series finale at Miller Motorsports Park, complete with airfare, hotel accommodations, all-access credentials and a chance to spend the day with Dempsey Racing.
The Foose-designed Mazda RX-8 R3 will be on display at the remaining Rolex Series events in 2010. Fans in attendance also have the opportunity to enter the sweepstakes by visiting the GRAND-AM Fan Zone.
This marks the second season that Pirelli and SPEED have combined to offer a Foose-designed vehicle. Last year, Bruce Winn of Hubbard, Ore., won a Pirelli Tire Chip Foose edition 2009 Ford Flex at the Rolex Series season finale.
