Riley Track Day Car Wins Track Car Challenge at VIR
Jul. 30, 2009
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 30, 2009) - A race-bred car with a race-winning driver turned out to be the perfect combination last weekend as the Riley Track Day Car (TDC) emerged from a field of over 50 cars to win the Hankook Ultimate Track Car Challenge at Virginia International Raceway. Riley factory driver Marc Goossens piloted the machine as it made a debut competition outing in the event, setting the fastest time of the day to take the honors.
VIR was the perfect setting for the in the Track Car Challenge event, as the Riley TDC was created to meet the growing demand for high performance vehicles for use at private track facilities like VIR. The machine, which is capable of carrying two people, delivers an unparalleled driving experience while keeping costs at reasonable levels.
Unlike some of the competing entries in the event, the TDC is currently available for sale and is delivered fully sorted, with customers able to specify exactly how theirs is outfitted.
"Competition is what is at the very core of our company, so we jumped at the chance to come out and put our car up against some pretty competitive cars," said Riley Technologies Vice President Bill Riley. "And to come out on top was of course all the better! We're really happy with how well this car has hit our targets for speed and safety. We had a great time being in a paddock so full of interesting and fast cars as well as some very passionate people behind them. We look forward to coming back and defending our title here next year."
Goossens, who has driven everything from NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars to Daytona Prototypes on the classic 3.27-mile natural terrain road circuit, was flashing his trademark grin following the event as he added another title to his racing resume.
"Our customers have been really impressed with how straightforward and fast this TDC is to drive, and it was great to show those capabilities to a new group this weekend," said Goossens, who helps owners become acclimated to the machine as part of the delivery experience. "This was a fun event to be a part of, and I enjoyed checking out all the different cars that were competing. But the best part of course was getting out on track and setting the times, I just had a blast with this car."
The success of the TDC is just one of the concurrent projects that Riley Technologies is overseeing, as company representatives will travel to Europe to meet with GT4 teams that have shown an interest in the new Chevrolet Camaro program, which is slated to make a racing debut in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge season finale at VIR in October.
Riley Technologies has an extended legacy of success, developing competitive on-track products for the Rolex Sports Car Series, the USAC Gold Crown Series and the Japanese GT Championship Series.
