DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 3, 2009) - GRAND-AM fans will get a sneak peek behind the scenes from testing at Virginia International Raceway on tonight's (Nov. 3) GRAND-AM Weekly, when British star Derek Johnston and team manager Mike Johnson will be the featured guests.
Grand-Am Weekly is heard Tuesday evenings from 7-8 p.m. ET on WELE-1380 AM Daytona Beach, featuring DC Williams, Wyatt Davis and J.J. O'Malley.
To listen live, visit the station's new web site, www.news1radio.net. To call in with your questions, dial the new studio telephone number, (386) 523-1880.
Today was Johnston's first time behind the wheel of a Daytona Prototype. He beat out competitors in four British racing series to become the inaugural winner of the Rolex 24 Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco, earning him a funded seat in the 2010 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Johnston, the champion of the Radical series, tested in the No. 09 Spirit of Daytona Porsche Coyote, joined by Guy Cosmo.
Johnson is also at VIR, where Stevenson Motorsports is testing its new KONI Challenge Camaro with Jeff Bucknum at the wheel. The team debuted the new car last month at the circuit, with Bucknum and David Donohue drove the car in the Sunoco livery made famous by their fathers in the Trans-Am Challenge. Johnson will also talk about Stevenson's transition from a Pontiac GXP to Camaro in the Rolex Series GT class.
Program Note: WELE commitments to cover local collegiate basketball will impact GRAND-AM Weekly several times over the off season. Stay tuned for program updates.
